High Flight
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
- John Gillespie Magee, Jr., (killed in the Battle of Britain, age 19)
Starship was the original idea of Paul Blomdahl at Picofun AB, in 2001. He now works at The Astonishing Tribe, no doubt doing a great job there as well.
I adopted the idea from him, and he and the people working with us on the concept have all agreed to let me develop the idea into a fully fledged role-playing game. Other people involved were Billy Rimgard (writer, and a very talented one at that), Mike Wells (graphic artist), and Benjamin Glaser. He also worked with graphics, but for the original WAP-game idea. All pixelated images and most of the logos are his. Personally I developed all the races, some of the history and additional texts. All authors are stated by the articles they've written.
I hope you will enjoy this source material, and that you will - just as I hope to do - create wonderful new worlds where anything is possible. Even to touch the face of God.
